When you’ve got an interview to prepare for, one of the biggest questions you may have is what the hiring manager will ask. Unfortunately, there is no way to know what questions you will be asked in an interview, but you can prepare for common ones ahead of time.

“Can you tell me a little about yourself?”
This question seems so simple, which causes job seekers to pass it up in their interview preparation. But actually, its simplicity can be tricky. If you’re asked this question, do not tell your entire personal or professional history and don’t just ramble on and on. Instead, give a concise and compelling pitch that communicates why you are right for the job.
To do this effectively, talk a little bit about your current role, give some background as to how you got to this point in your career, and finally discuss the relevant experience that prepares you to excel at this position.
“How did you hear about this position?”
When an interviewer asks you how you found the job posting, this welcomes the opportunity to share your eagerness to connect with the company. Be specific about how you heard about the job and then also share what excited you about the opportunity. If you are connected with any of the company’s employees on social media, share that information as well. This can strike up other conversations about the passion you have for the company.
“Why should we hire you?”
This is a common question, and it’s also intimidating. While it can feel uncomfortable, it’s the perfect set up to reiterate your skills and qualifications for the job. To wow the interviewer effectively, make sure you cover these three things: how well you can deliver the results they’re looking for, that you will fit in with the company culture, and why you’re better than the other candidates.
